State Officers Electoral Board
The State Officers Electoral Board (SOEB) will meet on Tuesday, July 10, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. in Room 16-504, located on the 16th floor of the JRTC, 100 W. Randolph Street, Chicago, and at 2329 S. MacArthur Boulevard, Springfield to hear and preliminarily pass upon objections to nominating papers seeking to place independent and new political party candidates on the ballot for the November 6, 2018 General Election. (Attendees at the JRTC must pass through security on the ground floor) During this meeting, the cases will be called and appearances accepted (Objectors and Candidates may appear in person themselves or may be represented by counsel). Appearances may be submitted to the General Counsel prior to the July 10th meeting by personal service, by email to, or by fax to 312-814-1863. In addition, the SOEB will adopt the Rules of Procedure and appoint hearing officers to preside over each objection.

Immediately following the initial meeting, hearing officers will meet with the parties assigned to them for the purpose of conducting case management conferences to discuss briefing and hearing schedules and other procedural matters. Hearing officers will be present in both the Chicago and the Springfield offices. Those parties assigned to a hearing officer who is present in the Chicago office will meet, either in person or via teleconference, with their assigned officer in Suite 14-100, located on the 14th floor of the JRTC. Those parties assigned to a hearing officer who is present in the Springfield office will meet, either in person or via teleconference, in the Springfield office at 2329 S. MacArthur Boulevard. As noted, to the extent a party is present in the office opposite of his/her assigned hearing officer, he/she will be teleconferenced in to the respective case management conferences. Evidence and argument will not be accepted at the initial meeting of the SOEB or at the case management conferences immediately following the meeting.

Candidates are STRONGLY encouraged to check the SOEB website ( see if objections have been filed against them, and any such candidates should appear at the SOEB meeting on July 10, 2018 even if the candidate’s copy of the objection has not yet arrived by certified mail.
